GO GREEN: NURTURING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AMONG CHILDREN
The role of schools is to break the notion that protecting the environment is only the responsibility of the government. We need to remember that the foundational thinking of an individual is shaped during his/her school days. Therefore, nurturing children who will be leaders of tomorrow—possessing the right mindset, skills, and vision for environmental preservation—is important.
School life is not all about academics. It is also about learning to interact with other people, being aware of social issues, and being involved in initiatives that go beyond academic goals.
At S.D. Public School students participate in activities that are designed to improve student engagement and family involvement. Beyond making our school an aesthetically vibrant and environmentally friendly place, our ultimate goal is to instill in the children a sense of responsibility for the environment and everything around them.
We are taking steps to create a ‘clean and green consciousness among students by enabling them to REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE by conducting various activities like conserving water, electricity, food, waste management, sensitivity towards plants and animals, etc.
PLASTIC IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD.
Polythene bags are polluting, land, water, and air as they are non-biodegradable. Students and parents are encouraged to reduce the use of plastic.
We have introduced the concept of ENVIRONMENTAL CITIZENSHIP (EC) in classrooms to make our students understand the importance of living in harmony with nature. This develops within them a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation. It is based on one's life choices in minimizing the environmental impact on the earth.
Awareness among children through such concepts can influence their families towards responsible consumption and conservation of resources. For example, minimizing the usage of electricity, undertaking water conservation, and practicing reuse and recycling. The ultimate goal of the EC is to develop green citizens.
In light of this, our school has designed a program ‘GO GREEN’ to build up students’ knowledge and skills through daily activities and lifestyles that can positively impact the environment.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Swami Vivekananda said " It is a privilege to serve mankind, for this is the worship of God. God is here, in all these human souls.
When students get involved in community service, they not only help others, but they expand their worldview, develop empathy and leadership skills, and realize how their actions can have a positive impact.
We at S.D. Public School encourages our students to actively participate in community services through direct interaction with underprivileged children as well as through reaching out to them in the field. We believe that students will feel more satisfied and contented by bringing smiles and happiness to children who are not as privileged as them.
PARENTS AS PARTNERS
At S.D. Public School, we believe in engaging parents actively and working in effective partnership with the school, when both the school and parents work together closely we can create a great learning environment for children to flourish.
We interact/communicate in many ways such as through Parent Orientation, Parent Teacher Meetings, circulars, and emails. Parents are also invited to participate in events organized for them to foster a positive relationship.
